Detailed Construction

Quality is essential for outdoor products. That's why The Islands uses only the finest materials and  highly skilled craftsmen to create our unique line of custom barbeque entertainment centers and outdoor fireplaces. 

Framing

For strength and durability, The Islands' inner framework is constructed of high-grade galvanized steel studs. Self-taping steel screws lock the framework tight. To assure lasting  durability, a special "U" shaped channel is used when constructing the base,  this framework supports a raised floor to allow for proper drainage. 

Base Cabinet

Island cabinets are constructed  of water resistant/fire-proof concrete cellulose fiberboard. Hardi-Backer is  strong and durable yet flexible enough to prevent damage when the cabinet is moved or transported. The bottom edge of the Hardi-Backer is placed in a metal security track for added protection against the elements. For further durability the Hardi-Backer is first glued using a commercial adhesive to prevent  separation finally special screws fasten the Hardi-Backer to the steel  framework. 

Stucco Finish

For a beautiful finish,  water-free synthetic stucco is used. Mudding the surface and taping all corners  first prepares the Hardi-Backer. Once a smooth even surface is completed, a light skim coat is applied by hand; finally, the exterior is sprayed with a  special weather resistant texture coating. The final step of the cabinet finish  is the application of a rubber-like paint, which provides additional protection  from the elements. 

Tiles

Only porcelain tiles, imported from Italy, are used at The Islands. Lasting beauty is assured by our craftsmen who install all tiles in straight lines and cut all corners at 45-degree angles for added strength.

Synthetic Thin Set and Grout

Many outdoor tile surfaces fail  due to moisture seeping beneath the tiles and freezing. This breaks the bond between the tile and the structure. In order to protect The Islands' tops from  failure a synthetic additive is combined with the grout and thin set that contains special polymers and resins. No water is added to our grout or thin  set, the result is a strong and permanent bond that is sealed before leaving the  factory. We take every precaution to virtually eliminate cracking or lifting of tiles in any weather conditions. 

The result of this careful construction process is a virtually indestructible product that will provide you  and your family with years of enjoyment.
